Serving the nation’s children for 140 years, Children’s National is a proven leader in the development and application of innovative new treatments for childhood illness and injury. Children's National Medical Center knows that when a child has a serious illness, it affects everyone in the family — and Children’s team cares for them all. The Patient and Family Support Program provide comprehensive psychosocial and mental health services for patients, their parents and siblings. Children's National Medical Center has Centers of Excellence focused on Sickle Cell, HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, and Kidney Disease. Project CHAMP (Children's HIV and AIDS Model Program) is one of the area's largest providers of support and services for children living with HIV infection and AIDS. The Sickle Cell Disease Program follows more than 1,200 children, making it one of the largest pediatric sickle cell programs in the country.
