Umzi Wethu
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
The Umzi Wethu Training Academy for displaced youth in South Africa is a highly innovative, community-based initiative, harnessing the healing power of nature to fulfill the potential of orphans and vulnerable youth (OVY) displaced by HIV/Aids or other causes. It engages the booming eco-tourism sector in South Africa to generate jobs for trained and mentored OVY who would be otherwise unemployed. This is a not for profit project harnessing the healing power of nature and inspiring an environmental consciousness. Each young person will experience careful mentoring and accredited training in a safe environment with concentrated and extended time in nature. Through Umzi Wethu, each participant will graduate into work perhaps as a game ranger, chef or lodge hostess through advance job placement into the ecotourism, conservation and hospitality industries to secure a future for these young people.
